WILTA members were well represented at the 2009 Australian Society of Indonesian Language Educators (ASILE) Conference. Held on 14-15 July at St Catherine's School in Waverley, NSW, the conference backed on to the AFMLTA conference, also held in Sydney earlier that week.
This was a great opportunity for Indonesian language educators to network, collaborate and share the latest news in Indonesian language learning and teaching. Hot topics included the National Curriculum, use of ICT, research in Indonesian language classrooms, new resources and resource development, language points, teaching methodology and methods, and much more. Sue Cooper and Penny Coutas "live blogged" during the first day of the conference, and you can read their accounts below. Slides from the conference have also been posted to Slideshare.net and WILTA thanks Laura Lochore for her work in coordinating the uploads. At the end of the conference, delegates voted that instead of being held in the same year as the AFMLTA conference, ASILE would move to the alternate years. Hence, ASILE will be on again in 2010, in Canberra, ACT, hosted by the Australian National University and the Australian Defence Force Academy. There are plans that ASILE will then be held in Bali, hosted by the Indonesia-Australia Language Foundation (IALF), in 2012. Check the WILTA website for updates.
