WILTA Event #1 2014 – “Arts on Toast” WILTA got 2014 off to a good start with a delightful breakfast gathering at the Canvas Café at Fremantle Arts Centre. Along with some friends from AIPSSA (Australian Indonesian Postgraduate Students and Scholars Association) we enjoyed good food and excellent Indonesian language conversation practice. A bonus was the opportunity to view an exhibition of contemporary Balinese Art entitled “Bali: Return Economy”. WILTA Event #2 2014 – May Workshop The May Workshop is traditionally the one featuring our annual Reciprocal Teacher Visit (RTV) participant from the IALF. This year Pak Andre Maure worked at 16 primary and secondary schools in WA, as well as presenting workshop sessions on Pulau Sumba, Indonesian children’s games and Nusa Tenggara Timur dialects. This workshop also included presentations from Adopt-A-School and Sue Cooper with Wilfred Liauw who talked about effective lesson plans. WILTA Event #3 – Language Learning Space PD In conjunction with Education Services Australia, WILTA offered three venues for workshops introducing the new online Indonesian teaching resource The Language Learning Space. Lucy Booth from ESA in Melbourne explained how the new website works and answered questions from attendees on what seems to be an innovative and interesting new resource. Wilfred Liauw. WILTA Event #4 – Term 4 Workshops and Annual General Meeting Another well-attended workshop with a focus on planning for the Australian Curriculum in Languages, ably presented by Sandra Jackson. Other presentations included Wilfred Liauw’s sharing of photos and videos taken during the ASILE tour, many of which will be developed as Indonesian teaching resources; reports from our four Language Assistants Randi, Andi, Clara and Wisnu; and a reflection on the value of cultural incursions from Sue Abdullah. |
