An Exciting Professional Development Opportunity
(Available to WILTA members only!)

Reciprocal Teachers Visit

WILTA and IALF developed the Reciprocal Teachers' Visit for several years. It an opportunity for teachers to either host an Indonesian teacher at your school or experience Indonesia yourself!

WILTA has established the Reciprocal Teacher Visit programme to achieve the following outcomes:
  • Provide opportunities for teachers to participate in a teaching role whilst being immersed in the everyday interactions of an Indonesian classroom.
  • Provide opportunities for our own student learners of Indonesian to experience the benefits of classroom interaction with a background speaker of the Indonesian language.
  • Provide opportunities for professional development both linguistically and socio-culturally.
  • Enhance the profile of Indonesian language and WILTA within our schools and the wider community.
  • Establish an ongoing relationship with an Indonesian teaching organisation.
  • Increase international awareness of the education systems within Western Australia.

IALF Teacher in Western Australia

How to apply
All schools are encouraged to apply to host an IALF teacher. The experience of having an RTV teacher in their classrooms has been unanimously praised and endorsed by both teachers and students alike each year since the program began. It is a rare opportunity for our students to have contact with a native speaker of Indonesian and their culture.

The focus of the visit will be to work in Indonesian language classes across all phases of learning, as a classroom assistant. The RTV teacher will also be working with WILTA members in providing a professional development session at our workshops.

Country members as well as city members are encouraged to submit an expression of interest. Country members are also encouraged to form a “cluster” of more than one school to make the most of the travelling time involved for the RTV teacher.

In the past few years the RTV teachers from Jakarta, Surabaya and Bali have greatly enjoyed their opportunities to visit and teach in places such as Bunbury, Busselton, Capel, Binnu, Pinjarra, Albany, Jurien Bay, Geraldton and Northampton, as well as both government and private schools in Perth.

Eligibility criteria:
To be considered for selection, applicants must:
  • be a current financial member of WILTA
  • Preference will be given to applicants who are also able to host Bapak/Ibu guru in their home during their time in Western Australia.
