EXPRESSION OF INTEREST TO HOST

WILTA is once again seeking expressions of interest from members who wish to have an IALF teacher as a short term language assistant in their classroom for a week during Term 2 2019.  Preference will be given to applicants who are also able to host Bapak / Ibu guru in their home during their time in Western Australia, to provide or arrange adequate hospitality including all meals and transport, and to ensure that their guest feels valued and appreciated through offering a pleasant, welcoming and understanding atmosphere in their home.

The focus of the visit will be to work in Indonesian language classes across all phases of learning, as a classroom assistant.  The RTV teacher will also be working with WILTA members in providing a professional learning session at our Term 2 Workshop if possible. The experience of having an RTV teacher in their classrooms has been unanimously praised and endorsed by both teachers and students alike each year since the program began.  It is a rare and motivational opportunity for our students to have contact with a native speaker of Indonesian and their culture.

In the past few years the RTV teachers from Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali and Sumba have greatly enjoyed their opportunities to visit and teach in places such as Bunbury, Busselton, Rockingham, Mandurah, Geraldton, Northampton and Kalbarri, as well as both public and private schools in the Perth metropolitan area.  Perth metropolitan and country members are also encouraged to form a “cluster” of more than one school to make the most of the travelling time involved for the RTV teacher.

The RTV to WA will occur during Weeks 2 to 6 of Term 2, 2019
i.e. 5 May to 2 June 2019

If you are interested in hosting the RTV teacher for a few days (up to one week) please complete the expression of interest form on the following pages, and email it to Ibu Donna Marshall at donna.marshall@education.wa.edu.auby the deadline shown below:

the end of the first week of April holidays, i.e. Sunday 21 April 2019

The number of participating schools is limited, so don’t delay!

Reciprocal Teacher Visit to Bali 2019
An Exciting Professional Development Opportunity
(available to WILTA members only!)

 How to apply
Complete the application form and return by email to wilta@wilta.org by Friday 12 October, 2018
(Week 1 after Term 3 holidays).

January 2019
Funding is available to a WILTA member to travel to Bali for a three-week professional development
opportunity during January 2019 and work with the Indonesian Australian Language Foundation (IALF) and a group of local schools. Is 2019 your year for the RTV?

WILTA has established the Reciprocal Teacher Visit programme to achieve the following outcomes:
  • Provide opportunities for teachers to be immersed in the everyday interactions of an Indonesian classroom and give valuable native speaker assistance to English teachers.
  • Provide professional development for teachers to improve their Indonesian language skills through a short course at the IALF, as well as everyday interactions with Indonesian speakers.
  • Provide opportunities for professional development in socio-cultural aspects of Indonesia.
  • Enhance the profile of Indonesian language and WILTA within our schools and the wider community.
  • Maintain an ongoing relationship with an Indonesian teaching organization.
  • Increase international awareness of the education systems within Western Australia.

There are two options available for the RTV participant to Bali:
       (1) Short Course (1 week) + English Language Assistant or Teacher Experience (2 weeks)
  • attend a one-week Indonesian language course suited to your individual level at IALF
  • work with English teachers at a group of local schools (primary, secondary or a combination) to assist or teach in English classes.  WILTA will negotiate the teaching load on your behalf.
       (2) English Language Assistant or Teacher Experience (3 weeks)
●

As the RTV participant you are also expected to:
  • Follow your own plan of professional development – for example, resource development, broadening of collegial networks, aspects of Indonesian language study or another of your choice.
  • Provide feedback to WILTA in the form of a journal or report plus a completed evaluation sheet.
  • Be prepared to act as an adviser to the WILTA committee and WILTA members to support and inform future RTV exchanges.

WILTA will pay for
  • Return airfare, departure tax and travel insurance.
  • Accommodation: one week in a home stay and two weeks in a hotel chosen by WILTA.
  • Weekly expenses allowance of $300. All expenses need to be documented or receipted, with surplus funds being re-allocated to the WILTA account for future Reciprocal Teacher visits.

Eligibility criteria:
To be considered for selection, applicants must:
  • possess a recognised teaching qualification
  • be currently employed in Indonesian language education in Western Australia
  • have been a member of WILTA for at least 12 months prior to making the application.
  • have a minimum of 12 months’ classroom teaching experience.

NOTE:
  • Dates for 2018 dates were 4-25 January. Dates vary from year to year  (4-11 January at IALF if option 1 is selected).  Recipients may extend the visit to Bali (at either end) at own expense. Family members and friends are discouraged from accompanying the recipient during the programme.
  • The cost of the recipient's travel to Perth for the flight to Bali is not covered by this scholarship.
  • The recipient must meet other living expenses above the daily allowance allocated as part of the
scholarship.
