Kompetisi Klip Klip 2020

1/8/2020

Dear Teachers

Once again, it is with great pleasure that the WILTA committee extend an invitation to your school to participate in the fourth annual Kompetisi Klip-2; an Indonesian language video competition. This year, Kompetisi Klip-klip has been reimagined by the WILTA membership as part of our Term 2 Workshop on Listening, Speaking and Responding tasks.
The aim, categories and judging criteria have been reworked thanks to the contribution of many WILTA members. For 2020, the main aim of the competition is to promote and engage students in authentic, spontaneous language use and meaningful communication within the context of the regular curriculum.

This competition is open to students from K-12. More details are available below.

Hormat kami
 Panitia Wilta

Age groupings and categories
Each school may submit up to two videos for each category for each year group. Schools are encouraged to have their own vetting process prior to submission.
There are six age groupings:
  • Primary:
    • Kindergarten – Year 2
    • Year 3 – Year 4
    • Year 5 – Year 6
  • Middle:
    • Year 7 – 8
    • Year 9 – 10
  • Upper:
    • Year 11 – 12

Categories
  1. Percakapan/Wawancara
  2. Bagaimana caranya?
  3. Wild card - one shot.

Topics chosen and language demonstrated for the categories should be suited to the age / phase of development and relevant curriculum content. The following are provided as examples only:
K-2 could conduct a puppet show on ‘kenalkan’ or show each other their favourite toys
Year 4 might discuss ‘rumah saya’ or explain how to look after a pet
Year 7-8 may talk about social events, or explain how to be healthy or play a sport
Year 9-10 could discuss a film, favourite music, or the environment
Year 11 might conduct a mock job interview, or explain local tourist spots.

The aim of the competition is to promote and engage students in authentic, spontaneous language use and meaningful communication within the context of the regular curriculum.

Percakapan / wawancara
This should be a natural conversation on a familiar topic, with the focus on sustaining a conversation rather than 100% accuracy.
  • Editing should be kept to a minimum and this will be considered as part of the judging criteria (i.e. students who do their performance in one shot will typically be judged higher than students who use a number of edited clips).
  • A puppet show could be an appealing option for many students as it may allow a student to enter without a partner; however, for eligibility in this category it should be clear that students are speaking, not reading from a script.
  • Maximum length: 5 minutes

Bagaimana caranya?
A video tutorial on how to do something. Examples include how to cook something, make something, play a sport, understand Australian slang, conduct a science experiment, how to stay healthy, or a makeup tutorial).
  • The emphasis is on the ability to communicate rather than accuracy. The number of shots should be kept to a minimum.
  • This may be conducted by an individual or a small group.
  •  Maximum length: 5 minutes

Wild card - one shot
A three minute video filmed in one shot (i.e. no editing of shots together) on any topic -  apa saja.
This could be any appropriate form of video, but must use spoken Indonesian (singing/rapping is considered spoken language)
  • As for the other categories, the judging criteria prioritises the ability to sustain natural and/or spontaneous use of language.
  • Maximum length: 3 minutes.

Length of performance
Time limits on video uploads are as follows (including intros/credits):
  • Percakapan / Wawancara:   Maximum video length 5 minutes
  • Bagaimana caranya:              Maximum video length 5 minutes
  • Wild card - One shot:            Maximum video length 3 minutes.
These are maximum lengths, videos may be shorter - especially for younger students in the first two categories.
Submission
Each school may submit up to two videos for each category for each age group. Schools are encouraged to have their own vetting process prior to submission and are responsible for ensuring the rules of the competition are adhered to.
Create your videos. See tips here.

How to Upload Video
  1. Upload your videos to the competition Flipgrid here.
  2. Ensure that your video is uploaded to the correct grid. Videos uploaded to the wrong grid may not be considered as part of the judging process.
  3. Save a copy of this submission form (one form per school) & Consent Letter .  Complete the form and email it to kk2@wilta.org within 48 hours of uploading your videos.

All videos and submission forms must be received by close of business Wednesday, 23 September, 2020.

Judging
All videos will be judged by a judging panel according to the following  criteria:
  •  Language deployment ie spoken spontaneously and naturally
  • Sustained interaction in the target language - a video in just one or two shots will achieve a higher score than a heavily edited video as the focus is on language rather than video production. n.b. videos in the Wild Card category will only be eligible if they are shot in a single take.
  • Fluency ie. the ability to maintain a flow, even if it requires use of repair strategies
  • Pronunciation and intonation
  • Creativity

(WILTA gratefully acknowledges MLTAWA  for the criteria developed for the Side by Side competition which formed the basis of this set of judging criteria).
The judges' decision is final. Judges reserve the right to not award a winner to any category.
Winners will be announced in Week 1 of Term 4 2020.

Further information
Each video must be predominantly in Indonesian and produced by participants. All non-original work must be appropriately referenced.
Teachers are responsible for ensuring all rules are adhered to and that there are no copyright breaches.
Teachers are responsible for seeking parental permission for any student who appears in the video. Specifically, parents will need to agree to their child’s video and / or screenshots being published on the WILTA website and WILTA social media channels.
Submissions must be received by 4pm on Wednesday, 23 September 2020.
At judges’ discretion, prizes may or may not be distributed equally across all categories so that the best entries overall are acknowledged
